The Heartbeat!!

Let me tell you all something, when Becca and I saw the heartbeat of the Player to be Named Later, it was quite possibly one of the most exhilerating moments of my life!! To think that there is a piece of Becca and myself inside her belly and the Player now has a beating heart . . . well, that is totally awesome to me!! As we say in Massachusetts, it is wicked cool!! I could have stared at that screen all day!! I only wish Becca and I could have popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate :):) I walk around all day and I have this goofy grin on my face. People ask me, "Why do you have that goofy grin on your face?" Some of them know that our lives have just increased in a very profound and wonderful way, the others, well, they will learn why we are smiling so much around December 14 :)

It has a heartbeat!!!!!

We had our first ultrasound today (April 29) and got to see our baby's heartbeat!!!

The excited father
The expectant mommy! Our baby is due on December 14, 2008- talk about a merry christmas!

5k run

We had our bachelor/bachelorette 5k run this past Sunday (April 27th). Turns out the baby really is sucking the engergy out of Becca...she was 4 minutes slower than usual! I was a fabulous husband and daddy-to-be, and waited for her 1/4 mile from the finish line so we could run across together holding hands!

Sunday, April 20, 2008

So Becca is gonna be a momma and I am gonna be a daddy :)) I suppose I should have suspected something was up when she started burping Gus (our other bundle of joy, a Pug dog) after he ate every meal!! Needless to say we were both very excited, scared, nervous!! For now we are waiting to spread the word, which is particularly hard for Becca because, as everyone knows, she cannot keep a secret!! So, we have started this blog in advance of telling everyone. I'm sure everyone will ask us a ton of questions, so consider this a resource!!
The lurid details: Let us just say that The Player to be Named Later is most likely a Spring-Break baby. Less studying leads to, um, idle hands and stuff. I had a week off from school, Becca had a few days off, it is the oldest story in the book. Becca told me on April 8th, right in the middle of my studying for a maternity and pediatrics test (go figure, huh?). She handed me a little one-zee that she had bought months ago (after I proposed of course and we had officially started talking about baby plans) that clearly stated "My daddy is a triathlete". She started crying a bit (happy tears, of course) and I swear the allergies that I don't have almost kicked in!! Got a little misty that night. Anyway, I'm waiting to show off the "It isn't my diaper that stinks, it's the Yankees" one-zee!!
As far as I can tell, the baby will be due around December 17 (using Nagele's rule, as every good nursing student should know). So, get ready for a ton of "Our baby's first Christmas" cards. We have a lot of planning to do, but for now we are going to enjoy getting ready for our wedding which is coming up in 4 weeks, 4 days, and about 16 hours as of this writing. After the honeymonn I do believe we are going to enter full baby-prep mode. One request, I don't care how it gets here or from whom, but there best be an official "Ironman" baby stroller delivered here so Becca and I can take The Player to be Named Later for his/her training runs!!

No belly yet!

Well, this picture is a week old, but still no belly on Becca. All the books say around the second trimester she may start to show. For now she still has abs of steel! Good thing, because the wedding dress is a size 4 and fits perfectly! We have our fingers crossed it still fits at the wedding (about 12 weeks into the pregnancy)!
